Zaydman strives to embody New York City through artwork

Beautiful. Colorful. Indefatigable.
These are words that describe senior Eva Zaydman’s cityscapes of New York City.
“There is so much diversity in every possible sense that is so fascinating. The color palette I select attempts to embody the range of colors that New York’s nature and architecture holds,” Zaydman said.
Zaydman’s chalk pastel drawings are inspired by her love for New York City, and her nostalgia. Zaydman spent much of her time in New York City prior to moving to Saint. Paul.
New York City is encapsulated in Zaydman’s art. “The way I use these colors in combination and the grandiose quality of the city is supposed to embody the city’s beauty, and the fact that you can always discover something new/different upon looking at the art work each time (even I do) represents it’s indefatigability,” Zaydman said.
Often Zaydman imagines herself in the scene. “There are times when I feel that I do, but I like to draw particularly from memories that resonate to the specific landscape rather than ‘in the moment’.”
Zaydman’s artwork has many sizes. A goal for her larger drawings is, “to make viewers feel like they are actually there,” Zaydman said.
