Winter Sports Preview: Dance Team welcomes new coach and members
“I’d say we’re in a building year,” Cynthia Zheng, captain of dance team, said. “But I’m really excited for the season. We have a great group of girls.” This year, dance team is getting a new coach, which could greatly change the course of the season. The addition of a new coach could go well, much like dance team’s last season. “Last year, we got [another] new coach who was great, much better than our previous coaches,” Zheng said. “We did really well for a small team, and everyone improved a lot throughout the season.” Altogether, dance team’s future looks promising, and even more so in the coming years. “I think we’ll be more focused on learning dance and building a bigger team than winning competitions,” Zheng added, “but with enough practice, I think we can do very well in competitions.”
“I’m really excited for the season, because I’m trying this as something new and so far, everything looks really fun and inviting,” dance team member sophomore Maren Findlay said. “Jessica (the coach) is very organized and push-forward, so we learn a lot in one day, and often I’ll go home and practice forms and turns and stretches so that I can be more flexible and perform the routines with less hesitation. I think she’ll lead us into an awesome season.”
