Junior Eli Zelle and junior captain Julia Hansen are excited to compete with a growing team this season. “This year we are anticipating a few new middle-schoolers and didn’t loose any people last year,” Hansen said.

After placing second in conference and boasting five all-conference skiers last season, the Alpine ski team has only expanded. They have gained several middle school students and underclassmen, while graduating no seniors from last year. “The growth that the team is experiencing will really help us, especially in a sport where team size often correlates to how well a team does at meets,” junior captain Julia Hansen said.

However, the Alpine skiing program is still relatively small. This leads to increased unity between the boys and girls teams. “We practice together and… consider ourselves teammates but we don’t compete in the same division,” junior Eli Zelle said.

The team hopes to translate its recent growth into a memorable season. “We want to see the team’s overall record and conference status improve from last year. We hope to have good runs at sections, and have a few state participants, especially since a couple of people were so close last season,” Hansen said.
