United loses a heart-wrenching game against Alexandria
The St. Paul United Girls team played last Wednesday against Alexandria Area high school in the first round of the MSHSL state playoffs. The game was a match up of the 4 and 5 seeds in the playoffs, and was thus supposed to be a good game. The first period started out with fast play from both teams, but United took the early lead with a goal halfway through the first period off a goal by Katherine Kerin. Alexandria struck back in the second period by scoring two goals at the 12 and two minute marks. United came out of the locker room in the third period aggressive and unfortunately it bit them in the behind as Alexandria extended their lead with a breakaway goal to make it 3-1. United kept up the aggression though out the game and were able to score with 57 seconds left to make it 3-2 and even had chances in the last 20 seconds to even it up, but the puck couldn’t get past the goalie. In the end, Alexandria won 3-2 and will play Warroad, and United will play at Ritter Arena Feb. 22 at noon.
