SMILING WHILE HURDLING. Freshman Hazel McCarthy wears a gleaming smile while completing a hurdle warmup. McCarthy moved on to sprinting drills following the warmup and completed it with more enthusiasm. “This is my first year doing high school track and I think it is really fun and challenging. Track practice has given me the opportunity to try a bunch of new things that I would not have normally done,” said McCarthy.

FIRST PLACE. Freshman Maren Overgaard leaps over hurdles with nothing but enthusiasm. She proceeded to practicing for her long-distance events and pushed through for the remaining 30 or so minutes. "We were doing hurdle mobility drills before our workout. It’s a fun warmup that’s a little different from our traditional warmup," says Overgaard.

SANDSTORM. Junior Nora Shaughnessy leaps over the long jump pit with her arms acting like wings, propelling her forwards. Before practice, she had never done long jump, high jump being her area of expertise. “I wanted to try something new, such as long jump instead of high jump, during practice,” exclaimed Shaughnessy.

COMING OF AGE. Turning Red, one of the five Oscar nomiees for Animated Feature Film, follows young Meilin Lee as she turns into a red panda and navigates growing up.

OXFORD CENTER. Jimmy Lee Recreation Center remains closed after a 16-year-old St. Paul student was shot in the head by a recreation center employee on Jan. 18. This was the second shooting near or at St. Paul Schools in January. The 26-year-old offender, Exavir Dwayne Binford Jr., was a community recreation specialist at Jimmy Lee and got into a fight with the victim and another student before the shooting.
