The team’s playlist, created by senior Griffin Thissen, consists of many rap songs from the likes of Drake and Meek Mill.

The boys’ basketball team is coming off of a deep section run that ended when the team lost by just 3 points to the #2 ranked St. Croix Prep in the section semifinal. With a new year on the horizon for the team with seniors graduated and new players stepping up, the team is looking to go further than they did last year and make it to Target Center for the State Tournament. This year, the Spartans have one less obstacle as the back-to-back-to-back state and section champion Minnehaha Redhawks moved up to Class 3A. The move leaves the path relatively open for the Spartans to make a state-run.

“Now it’s only St. Croix Prep, Cristo Rey, and us as teams that could go to state,” Senior captain Griffin Thissen said, “State is definitely the goal.”

Thissen, who was responsible for curating the playlist, views music as a good way to motivate the team. “We like to listen to it to get hype before games,” Thissen said.

The playlist consists mostly of rap. Thissen said, “We have a lot of songs from people like Migos and Lil Baby.”

The team takes on section opponent Concordia this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
