After the complete cancellation of all spring sports in the 2019-20 season, the boys baseball team was excited to begin the year and get back into the swing of things. Since the 2018-19 season, the team has lost numerous upperclassmen and team leaders, which completely changed the starting lineup and the amount of experience on the varsity level. The team had their first two games of the season on Saturday, April 10th, against both Como Park and St. Anthony Village. After a dominant win over Como Park, the team struggled in the cold weather and ended up taking their first loss of the year against St. Anthony Village to shift their overall record to 1-1.

As most teams do, the team created a music playlist to warm up to before each game. Levi Mellin, one of the team’s captains, helped create the playlist and decided to include several country and hip hop songs by different artists like Thomas Rhett, Florida Georgia Line, and Luke Bryan. “My favorite songs on the playlist are Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band and Cruise by Florida Georgia Line,” Mellin said.

The team had its first inter-sectional game of the season on Monday, April 12th, against Mounds Park Academy. After falling 3-0 over the first six innings, the team had a huge rally to tie the game going into the final inning. Unfortunately, a state-wide curfew instated by Tim Walz forced the game to be postponed to a later date. The team hopes to take their first official section win at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14th, against Breck.
