Sparks Swim and Dive had their last regular season meet at their home pool, Humboldt High School. The team has had an eventful season, and the conference meet was one of the main determinants for how the remainder of their season will play out.
“Our meet on Friday was our last dual meet of the season,” said junior Devi Nelson. A dual meet is when the swim teams of two schools compete against each other. In this specific meet, Sparks were facing off against HumWow, a co op that includes athletes from Humboldt and Washington. Throughout the season, Sparks have competed well against HumWow and beat them across many events. “[This meet] was the perfect time to try new events and put all of our training to the test, before the championship meets start,” Nelson said.
The team dominated the meet once again. “We won the meet and a lot of our swimmers got new personal records,” Nelson said. In a convincing fashion, Sparks emerged victorious against HumWow as almost every Sparks swimmer won against their counterparts on the opposing teams. “It was really exciting to win and see so many of my teammates do so well,” Nelson said.
Girls’ swim and dive is heading into the postseason with lots of confidence and excitement after another dominating performance. Their next meet will be their section meet on Thursday, Nov. 7.
