As SPA athletics kick off, captains are working to unite their teams during the short fall season. The Spartan captains have started the year with leadership initiatives and team bonding activities to show younger student-athletes how to thrive both on and off the field. Many teams achieve unity by hosting team meals or activities, such as swimming or bowling, in hopes of bringing the team together. There are seven fall sports, each with one to three captains, totaling 17 SPA students focused on creating a more inclusive community. As athletes learn these values from their captains, they gain a better understanding of leadership. The captains uphold traditions of leadership and teamwork while also aiming to inspire future leaders, helping to foster the SPA community.
Captains lead fall teams with bonding and leadership
SPRINT. Junior Lucia Gonzalez races across the field toward the ball. As a first-time girls' soccer captain, Gonzalez believes that by supporting and connecting with her teammates, she can be a leader and role model. “Being a captain to me means having a genuine connection with all your teammates and helping bring people together to play and love soccer,” Gonzalez said.
