Snow: It warms my heart

Snow: It warms my heart

Snow is both a blessing and a curse. On those dreadfully hot days in summer, we yearn for the cold touch of snow to grace us, but as soon as December rolls around, we pray for the warmth of July to come back. But who doesn’t enjoy snow once in a while? There is an activity out there for everyone. Whether it be making snow angels, snow forts, snowboarding, skiing, or participating in the classic snowball fight, everyone has a chance to enjoy the snow. The problem is that we don’t get to choose when snow decides to grace us with its presence. The fact is that there is nothing we can do to control the weather (except exacerbate global warming, but the effects take a long time) and we have to learn to deal with what we’re given.

Snow is fun when we’re given the time to enjoy it and when we don’t have to worry about any of the negative factors. If snow managed to fall everywhere that wasn’t road, then I feel like people would abhor it less. Unfortunately it doesn’t do that, so the best we can really do is just deal with it. Even worse is that where some schools get snow days and two-hour delays, SPA always expects its students to be at school at 8:05 every morning.

Unfortunately, Minnesota has been cursed with no snow this year. At least I think it’s quite unfortunate. Minnesota has a reputation to live up to seeing as one of the state’s nicknames is Minnesnowta. Besides, the only things that Minnesota is known for is snow and the Mall of America. Some Minnesotans are reveling in the fact that the snow has been a lot less prominent this year, though I personally am quite sad. The sight of snow caking the surface of everything outside is beautiful to me. When there’s no snow on the ground, the dead and dismal-looking grass is visible. The combination of sullen nature and third quarter at SPA is enough to make any student feel down in the dumps.

Snow is much more than just snow; it’s something we can all depend on. The idea of snow in Minnesota is assured, it is guaranteed to happen. Everybody needs a constant in their life, and the snow is something Minnesotans can all rely on. When that’s not around, we might not admit it but we all feel a bit more empty inside; when an integral part of your life is missing it’s only natural to feel hollow.
