On Wednesday, Nov. 13, senior Sawyer Bollinger Danielson officially signed her letter of intent to play Division I soccer for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Danielson had a highly successful high school career, with 58 goals, 24 assists, and 45 games played. She began playing varsity soccer at SPA as a freshman and quickly caught the attention of college coaches. Danielson made the All-Tournament team at the state tournament during her sophomore and junior seasons, was a three-time first-team all-state honoree, and a two-time all-conference player.
On Oct. 11, 2023, she announced her verbal commitment to the University of Minnesota via Instagram. Her post received many congratulatory messages from family, classmates, and teammates.
Unfortunately, soon after, Danielson tore her ACL during her club soccer season with Minnesota Thunder Academy. This led her to make the difficult decision to preserve her knee for her upcoming college season and sit out her senior season at SPA. Many of the GVS achievements are credited to Danielson’s leadership and talent on the field.
Leaving a lasting legacy, Danielson will be missed on GVS. She has been a starter since her freshman year, ranks second in SPA history for goals scored, and served as a captain her senior year. In the fall of 2025, she will play a more competitive field as a Gopher. Support Danielson next fall at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
