On Nov. 15, senior Matthew Fiedler made his decision to attend the University of Minnesota for playing D1 Baseball official. The school hosted the ceremony during x-period while friends, family, and coaches gathered around to support him.
“[The ceremony] was really great. Lots of my friends and family came out and it really meant a lot to me,” Fiedler said. “It’s been something I’ve wanted to do since I was very little and just making it official and seeing all the support and love I had was really nice; it was everything I hoped for, and it was just a dream come true.”
Fiedler is playing for the University of Minnesota as a middle-infielder and pitcher. “It’s a great school, I really like the campus, and it has a tremendous baseball program,” he said. “It’s going to give me a good opportunity to develop and provide a good stepping stone into professional baseball.”
He’s also excited for the opportunity to stay close to home. “It’s going be great being able to have my family see me play more often,” he said.
College baseball offers a new level of playing for Fiedler. “You play the best competition, there are tons of professional scouts at your games, the games are televised, and you have a chance to play in regionals, super regionals and the college world series,” he said.
