Sanders and Rubio win Minnesota Caucus on Super Tuesday
On Super Tuesday, Minnesota and 11 other states completed their caucuses for the presidential election. Many St. Paul Academy and Summit School students caucused for the first time in anticipation for officially voting in their first presidential election in November.
The caucuses are an important first step in determining candidates for the general election and anyone who will be 18 by the time of the election was eligible to caucus. This applied to a large chunk of SPA juniors and seniors. Junior Will Kelly caucused for the first time on Mar. 1.
“I am really excited to [caucus] for the first time,” Kelly said, looking forward to the event.
Senior Cait Gibbons also caucused for the first time.
“It was cool. It was really chaotic and didn’t feel very official, but it was really interesting to just see how the process works because I’ve never been to anything like that before,” Gibbons said.
In Minnesota, Bernie Sanders won the Democratic vote and Marco Rubio won the Republican vote.
