REVIEW: Unicorn Frappuccino anything but magical
On Wednesday, April 19, the world was introduced to a new drink made by Starbucks that would spark interest all over the internet. The Unicorn Frappuccino was released on Wednesday and since then it has gone viral on social media and the internet for its crazy flavors and bright colors. The drink is available for a limited time and will disappear after this coming Wednesday, April 26. The drink is sold at almost all locations around the US, Canada, and Mexico.
The drink has so far received mostly negative reviews, and the reasons are pretty apparent. Besides the aesthetically pleasing colors of neon and sparkles that make up the drink, the frappuccino has a flavor that can only be described as a mistake. The drink has a mango base which does taste decent, but this flavor is ruined by a bright blue sour syrup inserted all over the drink. Starbucks claims that the drink changes flavor if it is mixed around, but this is only because the sour liquid sits in the middle of the drink and can’t be tasted until stirred around.
If looking for a drink at Starbucks that is worth the price, look somewhere other than the Unicorn Frappuccino. The overpowering sweetness of the combined sour syrup and mango leads to an unwanted aftertaste that definitely does not taste like rainbows; or what one would assume Unicorn tastes like. On the other hand, if you are curious and are willing to spend the money on this bright new drink, you may be happy with the result.
