[REVIEW] The hype behind the top apps
“Flip Trickster,” “Slices,” “Paper.io 2,” “Hole.io,” and “Happy Glass” are five of the hottest free games on the Apple App Store. Are they too hyped, or are they really a good app?
“Flip Trickster” is currently the #1 app on the app store. The controls were very simple and easy to pick up quickly. Despite the easy controls, the parkour simulator is able to stay challenging. It uses a level progression format with objectives to complete at every level. The one downside of “Flip Trickster” was the frequent ads, however, the addictiveness makes up for that. “Flip Trickster” is great for distracting and playing for a long time because of the varying levels.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars
“Slices” is the #2 app on the app store currently. The objective of the game is similar to Tetris but is formatted differently. This game very lethargic, slow, and not attention-grabbing. There is no tutorial, so it takes a couple times of playing it to understand the rules and strategy of the game. However once the strategy in the game is found, it becomes more intriguing. This game is not as fun as its ranking, #2, deems it to be, and it is very hyped compared to being a genuinely good app.
Rating: ⭐⭐ 2/5 Stars
“Paper.io 2” is created by Voodoo, a company that has been a recent app making powerhouse with “Helix Jump” and “Baseball Boy!” “Paper.io 2” is a second installment of “Paper.io,” which originally was a computer game. The new game has fluid controls and features a very fun concept, in which the object of the game is to get as much space as possible. One flaw in the game is that there is only one game mode, and you cannot play online like other .io games such as “Agar.io” and “Slither.io.”
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 Stars
“Hole.io,” another game by Voodoo, is a fun game in which the object of the game is to swallow as much of a city as possible. The game features other modes such as the “battle royale” mode, which was very fun as everyone starts at the same size; and as you swallow more stuff, you become bigger and eat the other smaller players until there is one left. Overall, this was definitely a good game that can be played for a while before boredom starts to kick in.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 3.5/5 Stars
“Happy Glass” is a game in which you are supposed to draw lines in order to fill a cup with water. It has over 540 levels, so it is easy to play for long amounts of time, without feeling like the game repeats itself. Not only that, but the game also has multiple other modes that help you gain coins to use for hints when you need help on. The game feels fresh and provides fun challenges in which logic is needed. Overall, the game is a fun mental challenge.
