Playlist: Junior Maddie Flom-Staab shares her favorite music

Juniors Maddie Flom-Staab and Laura Viksnins listen to music side by side on the junior benches. One of Flom-Staab’s favorite songs is “New Slang” by The Shins, which she describes as “relaxing.”

Junior Maddie Flom-Staab describes some of her favorite songs. Flom-Staab enjoys listening to all of these songs because she can sing along with them.

1. Gold – Steve Kazee from Once the Musical

She found this song when she went to New York city and saw Once the Musical, which is now her favorite musical.

2. No Church in the Wild – Jay Z

This song is on the Girls Varsity Soccer’s warm up music playlist. “It is always really fun to jam out to before the games,” Flom-Staab said. She claims that it is the only “rap” song she enjoys listening to.

3. Forever – Six60

Her sister Maren Flom-Staab showed her this song when she came back from New Zealand, where Six60 is a popular band. “I just like how cool it is,” Flom-Staab said.

4. Lass die Musik – Madsesn

Flom-Staab found this song at Waldsee German Camp. She loves it because she knows all of the words and she finds it really fun to dance to.

5. Broadway, Here I ComeSmash Cast

“Fun to sing,” Flom-Staab said about this song, which comes from the musical television series Smash.

6. Sprinsteen – Eric Church

Flom-Staab describes this song as a “country summer jam.”

7. 1+1 – Beyonce

This song is her favorite song by the artist Beyonce because “it’s super fun to belt to,” Flom-Staab said. The song reminds her of when she saw Beyonce in concert. “She sang this song and it was just a wonderful…,” Flom-Staab said.

8. Mama Who Bore MeSpring Awakening Cast

“Great musical and a great song,” Flom-Staab said. “Mama Who Bore Me” is the first performance in the musical Spring Awakening.

9. Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa – Vampire Weekend

“Fun song,” Flom-Staab said about this tune by the American indie rock band Vampire Weekend.

10. New Slang – The Shins

“Relaxing song,” Flom-Staab said. “New Slang” is a single from the American indie rock band The Shins’s album Oh, Inverted World.
