On Jan. 25 during X-period, the student group SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) hosted the third annual drunk goggle obstacle course in the Briggs Gymnasium. SADD put up signs outside the gym encouraging students to sign up in teams of four and see the danger in driving with impaired vision.

“If you cannot shoot a basketball, you can’t drive,” SADD member Helen Bartlett said.

The obstacle course consisted of a small-sided 3 vs 3 basketball game and cartwheels on the baselines throughout the gym. SADD reflected that in the past the obstacle course has seemed like a competition and that has taken away from the attempted message to illustrate how dangerous everyday activities can be when impaired.

“We narrowed down the obstacle course to just two sections this year to show that the drunk goggle course is not a competition and purely educational,” SADD president Janie Brunell said.

The drunk google obstacle course is just one of the areas in which SADD seeks to educate the community. Earlier this year SADD gave a consent presentation with the same goal of educating the community.

“We have taken ample steps in our goal of educating the community this year but we aren’t done yet,” Brunell said.
