A long journey for US Theater Director Eric Severson and the cast and crew of one-act play The Yellow Wallpaper culminated in a successful trip to the Minnesota State High School League One-Act Festival on Friday, Feb. 8. The show, which was St. Paul Academy and Summit School’s entry in the annual state one-act play competition, showcased at the state festival after having taken first place at both the subsection and section competitions, held at Harding High School and Milaca High School, respectively. After performing, The Yellow Wallpaper was awarded a prestigious star for the skill of its cast and its artistic and educational merit. This year, only three of over 270 shows in the Class A one-act competition were awarded stars, which are always doled out following the state festival.
Despite being work-intensive, this show will be missed by its cast. “I love this show,” junior cast member Charlotte Hughes said. “I could do this for another month.”
Hughes and many others who worked on The Yellow Wallpaper will be back at work soon, however. Auditions for US Spring Musical Hairspray will be held in the choir room on Feb. 19 and 21.
