The first of two USC Blood Drives this school year is planned to happen on Halloween. The second is planned to be during spring. For the past three weeks, USC has been partnering with American Red Cross to prepare. It will happen from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the small gym, and is open to students that are 17 and 18, or 16 with parental consent to donate blood.

USC sophomore representative Zach Berchenko is excited to share that, “[The USC volunteers] will be dressing up as vampires to go with the Halloween theme,” he said.

Last Friday and this Monday, there was a table near the cafeteria with information about the blood drive and a place to sign up. Two USC members ran the table, helping interested students learn more and sign up.

Junior representative and table runner Shefali Meagher plans to help on the day of the drive by “ going to help out during tutorial, [specifically] checking people in and making sure that after people give blood, they stay and wait for 15 minutes make sure that they are okay,” she said.

Interested students can also sign up online, and the weight requirements can also be found on the Red Cross website.

While the Blood Drive subcommittee of USC has been working to plan this event, other members have been working on separate initiatives such as the House Cup and the Mentor-Mentee programs. All officers and representatives hope they can give to those in need with the two blood drives this year.
