Finally, the solution for any student who’s knows one meal is not enough for a whole school day. On Nov. 13, two vending machines were installed near the bathrooms at the end of the athletic hallway. One of the machines is a traditional vending machine with chips, granola bars, and a few select candies. The other is a non-traditional, spiral vending machine with sandwich, salad, and muffin options. To go along with the gourmet vending machine, there is also a microwave available for students to use on hamburgers or packaged meals.

The goal of the new vending machines is to provide more healthy options during the school day. Students are readily embracing the options they provide.

Some of the benefits of the machines are that it saves students the hassle of going all the way to Drake Arena for a vending machine and that they have a wide variety of options. A more significant benefit, however, is to students playing winter sports. Many winter practices happen late after school so these machines provide a source of nutrition between the school day and practice.  “They’re are helpful, especially for after school practices because if I forget a snack, I can grab something from the vending machines,” sophomore Emerson Egly said.

Whatever students use these vending machines for; they will no doubt brighten the day of anyone who needs an extra snack or energy boost.
