Basketball is more than just a sport for the Mullataa family; it’s a shared passion that has been passed down through generations. Ninth-grader Magarsaa Mullataa has been playing basketball since fourth grade. His brothers, junior Bokii Mullataa and seventh grader Damboobaa Mullataa have all played basketball from a young age. Basketball is a huge part of their family’s culture.

Although Bokii and Magarsaa have been playing together for many years, they may be able to play together on a bigger scale. “Something I am really excited for is that I am able to play basketball with both brothers during my high school career. I would be able to play with Bokii during my freshman and sophomore years, and Damboobaa during my upperclassman years, which I think will be a very fun and unique experience.” Magarsaa Mullataa said

Magarsaa is trying out for the varsity team this upcoming season. “This year, I hope I can play varsity basketball so I can play with my brother. I think that our chemistry together is really good because we practice so much together outside of school, and I hope to see it on the court this year.”

Having siblings on a team can be a blessing and a curse, but Mullataa looks at it through a positive lens. “Because my brother and I have always been similar in size, We have been able to play each other on a more extreme level, so our practices always get heated because he pushes me to get better.” Magarsaa said.

Magarsaa and Bokii have only made each other better throughout their basketball career. Boys varsity basketball has its next game Dec. 13th at 7 p.m. at SPA.
