Mini Ed: Club leaders should explore different meeting times

Almost all clubs meet during one time, which limits students to participating in just one club.

Clubs are a great opportunity for students to connect with people who have a shared interest and do something that they enjoy. Students can pick a club that interests them, or if they don’t find one that they are interested in, they can choose to form their own. But the time slots for clubs don’t offer so many choices for students

Unfortunately, clubs meet only once a week during X-period on Thurs. which means that students are oftentimes limited to participating in just one or two clubs. Students may be more likely to join an additional club if that club meets after school. They would have more opportunities to expand their interests and activities because of the added time slots.

Club advisers are usually an important part of the club, but if students felt that their adviser’s attendance was not vital they could choose to meet after school. This may also actually help teachers as it may be easier for them to meet at a different time.

When creating or running a club consider offering a different meeting time, so that students can expand their interests and the club can have more success with more members.
