On Nov. 6, junior Bridget Keel participated in the Berkeley Math Tournament at the University of California, Berkeley. According to the tournament website, “The Berkeley Math Tournament is a UC Berkeley student-led organization that aims to spread mathematics and the spirit of mathematical competition globally by presenting students with interesting, original, hand-crafted problems. As of 2021, we are one of the largest student-run math competitions on the West Coast with over 2000 contestants.”
As a member of the All-State Math Team, Keel and her peers represented Minnesota at this event. Upper School math teacher Zach Sheffert also attended the event as a coach of the team.
He said, “Bridget received an honorable mention in the geometry event. It is an honor to have Bridget represent SPA and Minnesota in national competitions as a member of the state team.”
“A small team of people representing Minnesota traveled to San Francisco for BMT, and we had a great time. When we weren’t competing, we worked on practice problems, toured the college campus, explored the Bay Area, and bonded with each other and our competitors,” Keel said.
