During X-period on Feb. 9, students gathered for a computer game tournament in SPA’s math wing. The game, Splix.io, has taken the student body by storm, as passionate and devoted players competed in a 45 minute competition, hosted by the IT club president and senior Noah Keogh. The participants were also provided with orange juice and donuts, provided by the IT club as well.

Although the match was close the whole way, the time eventually ran out, and ninth grader Josh Meitz was deemed the winner by Keogh at a score of over 2,000 points, good for a spot on the overall leader board of the game.

“It felt good to win the tournament. The game is fun for me because it’s a fun game to play with friends,” Meitz said.

Sometimes, a game can be less competitive and serve more of a time filling role, and Meitz knows this.

“The tournament was fun because it gave me something to do during x-period,” Meitz said

The tournament was meant to be competitive, but it also provided students with a break from their everyday academic lives through a bonding experience with people whom they shared an interest with, even for a mere 45 minutes. It is safe to say the tournament was a resounding success.
