Students, teachers, parents, and friends all gathered in the Huss Center for the first ever Spring Concert held at the new Performing Arts Center on Apr. 30. The concert, solely for the orchestras and choirs, included such favorites as ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’ performed by the Summit Chamber Singers and ‘Themes from also Sprach Zarathustra’ (better known as the song from every space movie ever) performed by the Academy Symphony.

One very notable song was by composer and St.Paul Academy and Summit School senior Jack Romans. Romans’ song, ‘The Fire of Joan’ was performed by the Honors Sinfonia and conducted by Romans himself.

From the program, “Only very rarely do we have students who are able to take on the daunting task of composing a piece for one of our ensembles. Jack has created a complex, highly promising, and beautifully sophisticated work that the Honors Sinfonia is excited to present tonight. It is quite common for composers to conduct their pieces at the world premier, and Jack will thus take on the role as both composer and conductor tonight.”

Another exciting performance was of ‘Carmina Burana’, when every performer shared the stage. Along with the SPA orchestras and choirs, 66 members of the SPA Community Chorale joined in the performance of this song.

In addition, 41 seniors participated in their final SPA concert, all wearing yellow flowers to signify that they will be graduating this Spring. Congratulations to all of the seniors as well as every performer on a great Spring Concert.
