The Hunger Games braves cinema screens one last time
December 4, 2015
As the final installment of The Hunger Games Saga reaches theaters across the world, fans wait in lines stretching across the theater lobby hoping to get a good seat in an already sold out showing of Mockingjay Part 2.
The film picks off where Part 1 left off, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and everyone close to him is still feeling the effects of the torture he suffered at the hands of the Capital. The Rebellion has struggled to take control of District 2, the final Capital threshold in the districts. Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) struggles the find a balance between being the visual symbol of the revolution and becoming the solider she wants to be.
Mockingjay Part 2 was a powerful movie. It was, frankly, a lot better than I expected. It stayed true to the book in many ways, the most noticeable being that they spent a significantly shorter amount of time within District 13, which few will probably miss. A few other more memorable scenes from Suzanne Collins’ novel had to be removed or rewritten after the abrupt death of Philip Seymour Hoffman (Gamekeeper Plutarch Heavensbee).
Other scenes, like those that took place in the sewer, were done beautifully and will send shivers down your spine. Lawrence and Hutcherson perfectly capture the roller coaster that is Katniss and Peeta’ss relationship.
If you can handle two hours of action packed scenes that will make your heart and mind race, this is definitely the movie for you. Mockingjay Part 2 deserves a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
