GVS was defeated 1-0 in their first and only state match against St. Charles Academy. The Spartans dominated throughout the game and their defensive line was able to stand strong until the very end, but the Spartans’ inability to capitalize on their chances held them back from the win. A goal scored by Clare Ryan-Bradley (‘26) was called back for offside late in the second half, and was one of their final chances before regulation ended in a 0-0 tie. In a golden goal overtime situation, St, Charles was able to dribble through the SPA defense and score a goal, leaving the Spartans in a downcast mood as their promising season quickly came to end before their very eyes.
BREAKING THROUGH. Junior Hazel McCarthy (‘26) takes a free kick from about thirty yards out for the Spartans. A common sight standing over most Spartan free kicks, McCarthy sent a strong cross into the box with a nice right-footed strike.
