Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) and Amy Dunne (Rosemund Pike) play a married couple just about to celebrate their five year anniversary when Amy goes missing.

If any movie could say that a viewer will not need the whole seat but just the edge, then this would be that movie. With a new twist every few minutes, no one will be bored by either the pace of Gone Girl or any of the characters.

Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) and Amy Dunne (Rosemund Pike) play a married couple just about to celebrate their five year anniversary. A year and a half ago they moved back to Nick’s home in the St. Louis area to care for his ailing mother, who died not a long time later.  The couple came from the city, but have not moved back to New York City. On the day of their anniversary Amy goes missing. It appears at the crime scene that she was kidnapped, but many believe that Nick might have killed his wife, but at the time there was no murder weapon or a body. The police start to investigate and are unable to provide evidence confirming that Nick did do it or not. As the search starts to try to find Amy, Nick tries his best to stay poised for the cameras and make sure he portrays the devoted husband. It becomes apparent that Nick is not telling the whole truth about their relationship beforehand and everyone speculates that he did something terrible to his wife. As the search continues the audience must decide who to believe.

The film is based on Gillian Flynn’s 2012 bestselling novel Gone Girl, and was a smash hit  before its big screen debut. Many that have read the book have mixed feelings because the narrative contains a lot of internal monologue that may not translate well to the big screen; however, they have nothing to worry about.

Should you see the film?

David Fincher has a knack for making suspenseful and masterful movies and this one is no different.
