Lollapalooza, possibly the Midwest’s biggest music festival, is about receive one of St. Paul Academy and Summit School’s talented singers, freshman Emily Schoonover.

Lollapalooza has a current lineup of very talented and famous bands, including Lorde and Arctic Monkey which were listed in spring playlist, as well as Eminem and Skrillex.

“I go to a program called School of Rock, where you have music lessons and every few month you do a performance,” Schoonover said. From there, Schoonover competed in a national competition for a part in the School of Rock All Stars Tour. “I think about 24,000 people from across America tried out.”

After completing the audition and successfully passing on to the national level, Schoonover was asked to submit an audition tape. “After that, we had to wait until April 1 before we found out who got in,” Schoonover said. “Me and one of my friends got in, so we are one of the 120 that got in,” Schoonover added excitedly.

From there the crew of 120 people is split into six teams. “Each team does a different tour and basically each team gets to end in one big music festival,” Schoonover said.

She has many plans for this summer. “I am doing two different tours. [I’m also doing] the Heartland Tour, which is a smaller version of All Stars, where we end up in Milwaukee,” she said. The Heartland Tour lasts for a week and the All Stars Tour lasts for two weeks.

When asked if Schoonover was excited, she smiled and said, “Oh yes!”

Currently Schoonover is in a band called Ground Zero: “It’s just starting out. We started about a month ago.”
