First Lady Michelle Obama rallies the democratic vote in Minneapolis
Waiting in a line that drifted for two blocks, people with excitement and energy from across the Twin Cities anticipated the arrival of the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. She was a special guest speaker at an Oct. 21 political rally at Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis. The rally’s goal was to encourage Democrats to go out and vote in the upcoming Nov. 4 election. State Senator Bobby Joe Champion, Secretary of State candidate Steve Simon, Lieutenant Governor candidate Tina Smith, Congressman Keith Ellison, Senator Al Franken, and Governor Mark Dayton were all present to rally the attendees, and give the First Lady a special welcome. “When [Obama] walked out, there was so much cheering. I couldn’t believe I was standing that close to someone so influential,” sophomore Lauren Hansen who attended the event said.
