The Spartans had most of their first-half chances come as results of set pieces, but only a few were able to find attackers in a scoring position, and those shots were either blocked or trickled just wide of the net.
In a thrilling overtime defeat against Hiawatha Collegiate, BVS won their section semifinal 1-0 to advance to the Section 3A Final. Senior Carson Granberg (‘25) managed to tip in a header pass from teammate Ezra Straub (‘25) into the bottom corner of the net only a minute into the second half of overtime, winning it all for the Spartans. The game began with the Spartans dropping back a bit on defense, but as they began to gain their footing, the Spartans started to push up and created many scoring opportunities within the second half. Two of these close chances came within the last minute of regulation and missed by mere inches, but the team was able to carry that energy into overtime and pull off a win in the most dramatic fashion.
