Community shows support through letter writing in the wake of a tragic shooting
Students and teachers put pen to paper to express their gratitude and solidarity. On Feb. 22 during X-Period and again during Tutorial, students were invited to stop by the lunch room, grab a note card, and write a note of support to students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
“Shortly after last week’s tragedy, I got a note through a Journalism Teachers group I belong to asking us to send cards. It’s the hope that these will be handed to students as they enter the building on their first day back to classes,” US Director of Publications Kathryn Campbell said.
On Feb. 14, 17 people were killed in a shooting at the school. Of the people killed, 14 were students at the school and the other three were teachers or staff members.
“It made me happy that the SPA community is trying to help the people who were affected,” junior Anna Perleberg said. Perleberg spent time during Tutorial writing a note to students.
The notes will be mailed this week.
