The Spartans played a fierce match against Central on Tuesday, including both singles and doubles sets. It was a warm and sunny afternoon, and the team performed confidently, consistently getting points. The Spartans won 6-1 overall as a team; they won all doubles sets and sets 2, 3, and 4 in singles.
“I felt pretty good playing today. I was on one doubles and we finished rather quickly; it was good,” said senior Liam Lynch. “This season has been really nice so far.”
Despite matches being frequently rescheduled, the team’s spirits are high. Due to tennis being a spring sport, the entire last season was canceled, so the team has been enthusiastic about the current season.
“Tennis is a naturally socially distanced sport if you’re doing it right. So even with COVID, the season has still been really good,” said Lynch. “The masks aren’t that much of a problem. We lost the entire last season to COVID, and that was a big bummer because we were probably gonna do well.”
They’re now leading with 3-2 in the season. Their next match will be against Breck at SPA May 5 at 5 p.m.
