Senior Michael Bagnoli dribblings the soccer ball around defenders

The SPA Boys Varsity Soccer team played conference rival Minnehaha Academy on the afternoon of Thursday, September 24th at SPA.

Minnehaha dominated the first half in time of possession, however they failed to convert on any of the chances they got. In the second half, SPA came out with some energy and kept possession for the majority of the half. Although SPA had many chances to score, they failed to put any away. The final score of the game was a 0-0 tie.

There was a lot of intensity throughout the game which led to several yellow cards and some injuries. The most exciting moment of the game was a late red card on senior Micheal Bagnoli for a hard tackle. The team heavily disputed the card as they didn’t believe the tackle merited a red card, but the call stood. This means that Bagnoli will have to sit out a game.

Junior Leonard Larson said, “It was a very fun and intense game but it was a tough game not to score in as they are one of our rivals.” The team has a good start to the young season, with a record of 2-2-1. They are still working out some kinks, specifically that of scoring more goals.

Their next game is on Tuesday, September 29th against Providence Academy at 7pm under the lights at Providence.
