The Boys Swim and Dive Section 6AA Finals was held last Saturday at the Art Downey Aquatic Center in Edina. Though the teams were highly competitive, the Trojans had a successful meet, with two team members qualifying for state.
Jacob Wahlberg qualified with a second-place finish in the 50 free and a fourth-place finish in the 100 free, and Tanner Zeise qualified by placing fourth in the diving competition.
In other events, such as the 200 free relay, finishes were less than a second away from qualifying. Senior Noah Rice, a swimmer in this relay, was disappointed with his time, though he wasn’t fazed.
“I did terribly,” he said with a smile.
However, many of the swimmers on the team questioned the placement of Edina into a section with mainly smaller-sized schools.
“We tried to get out of the section—like Cretin-Derham did. I think Edina should have been put with the other big teams, like Minnetonka; they always make state and are first,” Rice said.
Despite this obstacle, many swimmers dropped time and broke team records.
The state tournament takes place Feb. 27-29 at the Jean K Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota.
