On Tuesday, January 7th, the SPA basketball teams faced off in a double-header versus conference rival MPA. This was a highly anticipated rematch, as the Spartans beat the Panthers last year at the target center, and MPA invited SPA back for a rematch.
As warmups began, many fans from SPA began to fill in the stands. The energy was electric, and parents and students alike began to cheer as the teams took the court. The SPA section was substantially bigger than MPA section.
The Spartans pulled ahead early in the game, with the help of Captains Nathan Rock and Ezra Cunningham and stayed ahead throughout the entire match. The Spartans and the Panthers were evenly matched, and every point scored was matched by the other team. The possession of the ball was very even throughout the match.
As the game came to a conclusion, the Panthers became more aggressive, and many fouls were taken. The energy shifted in the last seven minutes of the game, with both fan sections loudly cheering when their teams scored a point or a call was made in their favor. The Spartans pulled through with a win with the score of 67-51.
Boys basketball’s next game is against Blake on January 10th at home.
