Are the benches an upgrade for sophomores?

Sophomores wonder which space is better to hang out and study.

Every year in school brings new responsibilities as well as new privileges . With sophomore year comes the switch from congregating in library to the benches, but is it an upgrade or a discomfort?

Some sophomores really appreciate the privilege of the benches viewing it mostly as a social area.

“I like the benches better because you can talk to your friends but in the library you have to be quiet,” sophomore Meley Akpa said.

Despite the opportunity to sit on the benches during free periods, many sophomores choose the library instead.

“The library is better because the benches are really uncomfortable after about 10 minutes and it is always extremely loud,” sophomore Ethan Meitz said.

In addition to being a quieter, more comfortable workspace, sophomores say that it is a larger workspace.

“There’s more space in the library,” sophomore Sonia Sukumar said.

“The library is better because the benches are not big enough for everyone,” sophomore Tommy Dicke added.

Some students don’t have a preference and go where ever is most enjoyable.

“[Where I go] depends on who is where,” sophomore Leah Hughes said.

Sophomores still enjoy the privilege of having the benches but wish that they were more comfortable.

“My suggestion is that they find some really long couches that have to have a cushioned back and they should put those in place of the benches,” sophomore Emilio Alvarado said.
