Lowertown is a historic area in St. Paul that has been known as the warehouse district. Now, it’s also known for its diverse selection of landscapes, activities, and events. This vibrant, cultural hub has been my home for the past 3 years now. It’s fascinating that when I leave my apartment building, I am already right in the middle of Lowertown.

CHS Field, home to the Saint Paul Saints, is host to a number of events throughout the year. In the summer, there are several games that pack the stands as well as all the parking spots. In the winter, they set up an ice skating rink and slide. The field provides entertainment for all ages all year round.

The St. Paul Farmers’ Market attracts many people from all over the Twin Cities. In the summer, spring, and fall, there are several farmers selling their produce of vegetables, meats, breads, and even flowers. In the winter, the area of the Farmers’ Market puts a large selection of Christmas trees, wreaths, and sometimes ornaments for sale. This has been convenient for me, because I don’t have to transport my tree very far.

Even with all these old warehouse buildings in Lowertown, there are trains and buses that run directly through. Having the trains and buses so close makes it significantly easier to get around if you don’t have a car. They have even helped me get to and from school multiple times.

On the roof of the train station, there is a small garden with benches and picnic tables. This space can serve as a nice, relaxing break from the busyness of Lowertown with the added bonus of having beautiful views.

Walk a little bit south, you will come across the Mississippi River. This, although it’s right outside Lowertown, can serve as a relaxing break.

Finally, make a stop at Mears Park. In the summer, Mears Park hosts several musical performances including the Jazz Festival. It also offers food trucks and hot dog stands. In the winter it is less busy but usually, lights in the trees make it a beautiful outdoor space amidst the city buildings. Despite the season, you will find people hanging out in the park whether it’s for music, food, or just walking their dog.

All of these places are essential to the ambiance and community of the neighborhood. If you are ever in need of something to do, come to Lowertown St. Paul.
