The Grandview Theater is a small neighborhood theater in the Highland neighborhood that has been around since 1933. In the years since, Grandview Theater has become a staple of the community as a great place to watch movies, hang out with friends, get good food and drink and take a nostalgic trip through the cinema doors.

The theater was bought by Mann Theaters in 1970, which comprises a large group of cinemas spread around the Minneapolis and St. Paul metropolitan areas. Grandview Theater was purchased as part of an expansion project and has been owned by the group ever since. Thankfully, Mann Theaters has not made any significant changes to the 1930s Art Moderne style of the theater. Walking through the classic exterior into the beautiful interior of the theater feels like a trip into the past.

Grandview Theater always has a wide variety of movies. For example, they are currently screening Joker 2, Terrifier 3 and Smile 2. They also occasionally have special events where they screen older classic movies on their anniversaries or if they correspond perfectly with a holiday or season. Right now, they are screening Death Becomes Her, which was released in 1992 and is a classic comedy/fantasy film. In the next few weeks, they will also be screening Back to the Future Part 2, with the anniversary of the film’s release date being on Oct. 19.

Watching a movie at Grandview is more enjoyable and memorable than going to a random strip mall to watch a movie at an AMC. Grandview has a unique feeling and has kept to its roots, not selling out to corporate trends.

The food and drink at Grandview theater is also great. The classic options, such as popcorn, sodas, slushies and ice cream bars, are all decently priced. They also provide the option to buy combo packages. A large popcorn with a large drink costs $13.50, and a large popcorn with two small slushies costs $20.75. The highlight food is the popcorn loaded with butter and salt, and the drinks also don’t disappoint.

Grandview Theater provides a hard-to-find classic cinema experience with its beautiful architecture, great food and mix of newly-released movies and throwback films. It is sure to guarantee an exceptional experience for visitors.
