Advice From James Welsh on learning to fly (Q&A)

Question: What sparked your interest in flying planes?
Answer: So what sparked my interest is my dad used to fly all the time for work. And my brother was really into tracking his flight to knowing all about the aircraft and stuff like that. And he just kind of rubbed off on me, I guess. And during COVID when I, couldn’t go anywhere, because everywhere were shut down, I really enjoyed, you know, tracking flights and all that. And then, as the world started to open back up, I started doing flight training.

Question: When did you decide you wanted to get a pilot’s license?
Answer: So I decided probably a year and a half ago, but at that point, it was too early, because you can’t fly on your own until you’re sixteen and you can’t get your license until you’re seventeen. So just had to wait around for a little bit, did a lot of theory and stuff like that and then finally got to really start flight school would have been this summer.

Question: What courses are you currently enrolled in?
Answer: So I’m enrolled in a private pilot’s license course right now, which is the introductory course.

Question: How do you balance school with flight training?
Answer: So I also have a job. So between those three things that keeps me pretty busy, but I do, I only fly on the weekends. And then I do homework in the afternoons. So I have plenty of time.
